New Interface
As you might have noticed, we rolled out the new Gyminee site last night. Over the last few months, many users provided us with feedback and comments on how to make the site better, and we have integrated many of those ideas into the new look and feature set.
After you have had a chance to look around and see the new features, please write us and let us know what you think! As always, our user feedback is important to us. Keep the suggestions coming!

New site looks great! I like the fact that users can edit foods and upload pictures now. Keep the new features coming.Mike said

New features are great but the overall interface is not as appealing as the old one. Maybe if the images and eye candy were reduced so that I do not have to jump all over the place to accomplish the same things that used to be easier and have a sleeker appearance. Just my 2 cents...Hal said

I could be wrong but I thought the old fitness report showed the metobolic rate of kals burned in a day plus the kals burned in your workout then subtracted you kals consumed to give you your net kals either over or deficit. Now the fitness report shows kals consumed minus kals burned during you workout to give you your net kals which will always be an overage. Then shows your metabolic rate as memo number but doesn't factor it in to the equation. Is that a mistake or is this a new way of viewing your intake vs your kal consumtion/burn?Roger said

I like the overall look and feel. It seems much more modern. It will take me a little while to get used to all the changes, but I'm already starting to see some of the benefits with the new site.Stephen said

@Hal - You are correct in that the net calorie breakdown is structured differently. Essentially, net calories are displayed without subtracting your BMR value. The net calories value is colored green/red depending on whether you are under/over your BMR value, which still gives you an at-a-glance view of whether your net calories are "good" or "bad." It's a bit of a different design, but it is still giving the same information.Denny said

I like the new site even more than the old one. However I do agree there are some picture, text, and spacial layout areas where things just seem too large. The nutritional log page could use some tightening up to conserve screen space. It just seems very spread out to me. The water glass looks huge. and the spacing between the lines of information could definitely be reduced without taking away from the beauty of the new layout. The calorie breakdown pie chart could be shrunk down some also. There is a lot more mouse wheel work then before, but the page also displays more info which is very beneficial. The food groups option is probably the least useful because many of the foods are not categorized into food groups and it is rather intensive to go to the meal planner and then edit the type of food group an item belongs in. Editing food is also MUCH MORE of a hassle because of the double and sometimes triple security checks you have to type through in order to make the site more accurate. I wanted to upload more pictures to foods yesterday but the process was just taking too long with the security checks. I also recommend putting in a shortcut alphabet at the top of the favorites page for quick access. I have a lot of foods on my favorites list and I find myself scroll more and more especially with the new layout. A shortcut to a specific letter would really help cut down on the scroll and maybe a alphabet range like a-e, f-i for the iPhone page because clicking on such a small individual letter is rather hard to do on the iPhone. Overall I think the new site is great and with some more feedback and minor tweaks its going to be even more amazing, thanks for everything guys!Andy said

In general I like the new site. However on the iphone site, I'd really like to see how many days it has been since I last did a workout. It was easy to tell which of my workouts it was time for when I had those numbers. Now I'm going to have to go back and look at the dates to figure out which is next.Holley said

I like the new site, but everything is too big - the text is too big, the graphs are too big, the images are too big. I have a smaller screen at work (not even THAT small - 1024x768 and I have to scroll way to much to get to where I need to be. It's like reading for the blind! It's fine on my home monitor where I run at 1680x1050, but it's annoying at work to be bombarded with such big text and graphics.Shane said

I'm a former fitday and calorie king user who came over because I wanted something iPhone compatible. I started using gyminee today and noticed that when setting goals they don't seem to save/display correctly when changing days. If I set a goal for Monday, shouldn't it show when I change the day to Tuesday? I can see Tuesday's goal not affecting Monday, but I would think they would go forward in time at least. The nutrition section works well, although there is zero charting/graphing that I can find compared to the free offerings on FitDay and Calorie-King. Am I missing something or are you planning on charging users to get the same stuff your competitors offer for free? I can see charging for things you do better than the competitors, or features they don't offer, but I don't think you'll be able to sell the same features they are giving away. The site feels very much in beta, which I am fine with as I am in software development myself and don't mind testing other software, but to access all of the features it appears I have to pay. That is 100% fine by me when the software is done, and your pricing structure feels very reasonable, but am I mistaken or are you asking us to pay just for the chance to help you debug your new site? I would think that the pro features would be free to a select group of testers, or even just made free for a couple of weeks until the bugs are ironed out. You need eyes on this site (from what I can see anyway) and charging us to look at it isn't going to help. The exercise functionality was troublesome to me. I personally just came out of a surgery and it will be a month before I can get into my old routine. Until then I am supposed to do what I can, a little walking or biking as I feel able. I found it MUCH harder to just enter some ad-hoc exercises on your site than any of the competition. From what I can tell you are focusing on tracking our workouts (which is a great idea) but you also need to leave room to easily input additional ad-hoc physical activity for those of us who don't have a workout plan setup, or are going above and beyond our scheduled workouts with our weekend activities.Andy said

First of all, thanks for all of your comments. Some of the issues you have brought up might be better suited for discussion at http://www.gyminee.com/users/support (you need to be logged in). @Denny - We are going to be tweaking the design some, so stick with us. Overall people have commented that it is a little too big, and we are going to work on it. We are going to change some things in the future to make food groups more editable - good suggestion. On editing of foods: this seems to be a bug. You should only have to do the captcha once, and then edit as many foods after that as you wish. We will look into that. We are also looking into making favorites a much more usable feature. Thanks for the suggestions. @Andy - We might add that back in, but we took it out in interest of speed. Thanks for the input. @Holley - I hear you. You aren't the only one with that comment. @Shane - The goals work are that if you set a goal for Tuesday, then Monday, it will not change Tuesday forward. If you don't have a goal for Tuesday, and you set it for Monday, then it would change Tuesday forward. We have moved the charting into the Fitness Report (link from Locker Room). Our site isn't in beta, but we just changed up the interface and are working out a few kinks. We are continuing to add new features, so it might "feel" beta in a few sections. I agree that it could be easier to do ad-hoc exercises, but you could set up a personal workout with walking and biking and then track those. You can always add an exercise to a workout on the fly when you are submitting your progress if you did something new.jeff said

Love your site -- its helped me lose 20lbs. since January. But not in love with the latest site redesign. The last version was much easier to use and worked well on multiple platforms. Here's what I've found, so far: - text and graphics too large -- much seems to be eye-candy that gets in the way of getting things done - too many steps / screens to accomplish tasks such as nutrition logging - can't find nutrition log graphs -- is this now a Pro-only feature? - while site works OK on IE6 / WinXP, does not work well on Opera or Firefox under Kubuntu 6.10 or on Microb under Maemo 2008 (Nokia Internet Tablet) -- probably due to Flash version available on those platformsChris said

@Jeff - Glad to hear you are doing well with your weight goals, and that we have helped in some way. We are working on a few changes based on your suggestions. We plan to do an overall "shrinking" of the new look but keeping the new design elements the same. We are also going to change some things in nutrition to speed things up a bit. Once you see new changes, be sure to comment on them using the support page; we appreciate your feedback.
@Chris - Thanks for the comments and for spreading the word.

The new favorites page with the alphabet short cut is awesome, it really helps save time. It would be even more helpful if that alphabet menu floated at the top of the page no matter where you scrolled to in your favorites list. When I'm entering meals, 99% of my selections are in my favorites section so I'm still scrolling back up to the top or using browser short cuts to get back to the top of the page. If I could hit a corresponding key on the keyboard to be taken to that letter in my favorites list, that too would make entering multiple items more convenient and much faster. I'm really looking forward to the challenges, that will be a lot of fun. Thanks for making the changes, the site keeps getting better and better every time I login!Paul said

Hi there I'm enjoying your site and I think it will really help me meet my goals. I have noticed an issue regarding the way fiber is calculated in my daily nutrition summary. I tried to post it to the support site but that site is PAINFULLY slow. If you are paying for service from that site you should complain, because they're not representing you well.Chris @ Logo Design Shopper said

I like the interface improvements, but I'm with Andy on this: I really miss have the "days since you last did" on the iPhone site homepage. Could we pretty please have it back? The only other thing I would suggest is that the progress graphs visually distort the numbers because the Y-axis doesn't start at zero. I would much rather start the Y-axis at zero so I could see the true relative changes in my progress. Does that make sense? Does anyone else feel that way? Otherwise, love the site, keep up the good work :] Chris
